With regards to Operator's Extra Expense coverage, the main body of the standard policy form affords cover in respect of Control of Well Insurance, Redrilling / Extra Expense and Seepage andPollution, Cleanup and Contamination. Earlier this year, at the Lillehammer Energy Claims Conference, solicitors, acting on behalf of London Upstream underwriting body the Joint Natural Resources Committee, announced impending changes to the market standard Operator's Extra Expense policy wording, namely the Energy Exploration and Development Insurance EED (8/86) policy form.

It will be essential for policyholders and their advisers to ensure any such changes to the market standard EED (8/86) policy form do not reduce the width of coverage currently available and do not deprive policyholders of cover in the event of genuine fortuitous occurrences.
