Offshore Projects & Vessel Classification -
London 4th January 2022
London underwriting body the Joint Hull Committee has issued its first Baltic Sea Ice report for 2022.
So far as operators & joint venture partners of offshore oil & gas projects are concerned, the report serves as a reminder of the vessel classification requirements contained within Offshore Construction insurance contracts.
In accordance with the Institute Classification Clause, underwriters subscribing to Offshore Construction insurance contracts stipulate the type, classification & age of vessels to be engaged in the carriage of project cargo. The provisions of the Institute Classification Clause apply to the carriage of all project property, including transits to the final offshore location.
With regards to the classification of vessels, the specific provisions of the Institute Classification Clause must be complied with in order to ensure full policy coverage remains in force.
Accordingly, in respect of vessels in the project fleet operating in ice conditions, it will be important for the operator & their joint-venture partners to ensure such vessels are ice classed in accordance with the rules & regulations of the applicable vessel Classification Society detailed within the Offshore Construction insurance contract.
